In Columbia Sites, TermIDs are unique identifiers assigned to taxonomy terms. These terms categorize content, enabling dynamic filtering and organization across various templates. By tagging content with specific TermIDs, you can display grouped content in Views Displays, facilitating organized and user-friendly content presentation.

Usage and Specifications

When to Use:

Utilize TermIDs when you need to:

  • Group content types (e.g., events, news articles, profiles) into specific categories.
  • Filter content dynamically on Landing Pages using Views Displays.
  • Create pre-filtered listings for targeted content presentation.

Applicable Templates:

TermIDs can be created for the following templates:

  • Bookshelf
  • Deadline
  • Decision Tree
  • Dissertation
  • Document
  • Event
  • Image
  • News Article
  • Profile (various types depending on model)
  • Research Project
  • Service
  • Timeline
  • Video

Creating Terms

Access Taxonomy:

  • From the main menu, click Shortcuts and then select Taxonomy to view all taxonomy categories.

Select Taxonomy Category:

  • Click List Terms for the template type you wish to create TermIDs for (e.g., Event Categories for events).

Add New Term:

  • Click Add Term to create a new term within the selected category.
  • Enter the term name (e.g., "Admissions") and click Save.

Retrieving TermIDs

Access Taxonomy:

  • From the main menu, click Shortcuts and then select Taxonomy.

Select Taxonomy Category:

  • Click List Terms for the template type from which you want to retrieve the TermID.

Locate TermID:

  • In the list of terms, find the term you created.
  • The TermID is typically displayed alongside the term name.
  • For example:
    • Admissions: 100
    • Advising: 85
    • Alumni: 31

Applying TermIDs in Views Displays

To filter content on a Landing Page using TermIDs:

Add a Views Display:

  • On your Landing Page, add a Views Display section.

Select Appropriate View:

  • Choose a Views Display that supports TermID filtering.
  • These are typically indicated by titles such as:
    • (requires all OR TermID + TermID OR TermID, TermID)
    • (requires: all OR #/service/term/14,15)

Enter TermIDs:

  • In the Arguments field of the Views Display, enter the relevant TermID(s) to filter the content accordingly.

Example:

To display all events tagged with "Admissions" (TermID: 100), select the appropriate Views Display and enter "100" in the Arguments field.
