A Views Display is a content aggregation tool within Columbia Sites that allows you to collect and present specific types of content—such as news articles, events, profiles, services, and research projects—on a single page. This feature enables dynamic content listings that automatically update as new items are added, ensuring your site remains current without manual intervention.

Usage & Specification

When to Use:

To showcase collections of similar content types (e.g., all news articles or upcoming events) in one centralized location.
To filter and display content based on specific criteria, such as categories or tags.
To create dynamic sections that automatically update as new content is added.

Specifications:

Availability: Views Displays can only be added to Landing Pages.
Supported Content Types: The following templates can be aggregated using Views Displays:
- Bookshelf
- Deadline
- Decision Tree
- Dissertation
- Document
- Event
- Image
- News Article
- Profile (various types depending on model)
- Research Project
- Service
- Timeline
- Video

How to Add a Views Display

Navigate to a Landing Page: Ensure you're editing a Landing Page, as Views Displays are exclusive to this page type.

Add Views Display: From the content dropdown menu, select "Views Display".

Configure Display Settings: Choose the appropriate Views Display type based on the content you wish to aggregate.

Apply Filters (Optional): If desired, apply filters such as Term IDs to display specific subsets of content.

Types of Views Displays

Each content type has associated Views Displays tailored to present the content effectively. Below are some commonly used Views Displays:

Views Display: Description
cu_documents - list of documents, Alphabetical: Lists all the documents added and displays them alphabetically, with filters displayed
cu_events - Events (all): Displays all local or Bedework events previously added
cu_events - Upcoming Events (up to 3 items)(all): Displays the three most upcoming events
cu_events - Event (requires: TermID OR TermID + TermID: Displays all local or Bedework events previously added, filtered to a termID entered
cu_events - Upcoming Event (up to 3 items) (requires: TermID OR TermID + TermID): Displays the three most upcoming local or Bedework events specific to the TermID entered
cu_events - Events (past): Displays all past events
cu_service_images_view - service Images List (requires all OR TermID + TermID OR TermID, TermID): Displays all or a filtered list of Bookshelf entries
cu_service - Services List (requires: all OR #/service/term/14,15): Displays all or a filtered list of Services entries
cu_staff_directory - Staff Directory with Images (requires: all OR #/directory/term/14,15): Displays all or a filtered list of Profile entries
cu_video_library - videos, sorted by title: Displays all videos with filters displayed
recent_news - (Paginated Grid) Horizontal block with Images (requires: TermID OR TermID + TermID): Displays a filtered list of news articles, each one displaying an image
recent_news - This month (dynamic): Displays news articles from the last 30 days
recent_news - (Research context) Horizontal block: Displays the 3 most recent news articles,
recent_news - News archive page: Displays all news articles starting 30 days ago

Filtering with Term IDs

Some Views Displays support filtering content using Term IDs, which correspond to taxonomy terms (tags) assigned to content items. This allows for more targeted content aggregation.

Example:

If you have multiple profiles tagged as "Full Time Faculty," you can use the cu_staff_directory - Staff Directory with Images Views Display and filter by the corresponding Term ID(s) to display only those profiles.

How to Retrieve Term IDs:

Navigate to the Taxonomy Section: Access the taxonomy vocabulary relevant to your content (e.g., "Person Types" for profiles).
Locate the Term: Find the term you wish to use (e.g., "Full Time Faculty").
Copy the Term ID: The Term ID is typically displayed in the URL or listed alongside the term.
